UN Launches a New On-line Network for Women in Politics

On 27 February, The United Nations launched an on-line network as a gathering place for women involved in politics all around the world.

Here are snippets from their Newsroom release:

New virtual network unites women in politics around the globe

New York — ‘iKNOW Politics,’ the first virtual network linking women in politics throughout the world, was launched today at the United Nations in New York. Short for the International Knowledge Network of Women in Politics, iKNOW Politics is the first online space specifically designed to make governance work better for women and to advance the role and number of women in political and public life.

This initiative was founded in partnership by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM).

For more information, go to www.iknowpolitics.org.

You can read the whole release at the United Nations Development Newsroom.

I took a quick peek and discovered an interesting site already having a wealth of information and resources, but also — and more importantly from my perspective — opportunities to connect and discuss issues, ideas, and questions with other network members. You can set up your own “MyKnowPolitics” page of profile information, your network within the larger network, and your own recommended resources. I love the idea of creating an active “meeting place” for women involved in politics (or interested in getting involved) to connect and share.

I’ll be joining and setting up a profile — how about you?
